In the year 1980 President Ronald Reagan was running for office against Carter and Anderson. He had previoulsy tried to run but was narrowly beat by ford in the 1968 election. One of the ads which was named "Reagans Record" used logical and ethics to appeal to the audience which is the people of the nation. He is trying to get the votes from the people who are undecided.
He starts of listing his Credential. This biggest one that is stated is that He was goevernor of California and was able to get them out of one of the biggest Crisis they had experinced. California was in great debt and on the verge of declaring bankruptcy, he was able to get them out of this and back on top. Everyone in his audience is affected by this because being on top is always a good thing. You don't want your country in debt.
Another way that they stated his credibiality was a quote by a prestigous newspaper which states "governor reagan has saved the state from Bakcruptcy" The San Francisco Cronicle. Many people like to hear that he saved people from a big upset and something that could have changed history.
The ad uses an ethical appeal by stating that he is a strong leader. Being governor of Claifornia is the second most important job next to the president. This may not be how many people see this job but it can affect people becasue they want someone in office who knows what he is doing. Not someone who is inexperinced.

Conference
During conference this past weekend many of the speakers used rhetorical analysis to get there point across. The talk I would like to talk about is the the one given By Elder Robert D. Hales.
He starts out using a Rhetorical question. He says "Why then if we have that love of the Savior would someone want to be an antoganoist or attack us?" The reason this was a rheotrical question was becase he brought this question up for a reaction from the audience. He wanted us to consider this and to get the idea into our head.
Another area of tools that he used was a simile. He used this many times. The first time one that I heard him say was "Respond to our accusers as the savior did". His use of as here is really good because he says as the savior did. Which makes people want to work as the savior did. Another time that he uses a simile is when he using the story of the Cactus. He says "that the cactus seems to shoot needles like a porcupine", this puts a picture into our head and we are able to understand more fully what he is talking about.
